Charles Phillips was born in 1794 in Cruden, Aberdeen, Scotland.

He was the Commander of the Steamship Sovereign of the Aberdeen, Leith & Clyde Shipping Company.

He married Mary Ann Sim in 1826.

He died in 1844, and is buried in Saint Clements Churchyard Aberdeen, Aberdeen City, Scotland
