First woman elected to Office in Pickens County
REFORM, Ala. - H. Hope "Tootsie" Wheat, 87, died Feb. 28, 2012, at St. Martins in the Pines. Services are Friday at 11 a.m. at Reform First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Etherton and Susie Knedlik officiating. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Wheat was born Oct. 13, 1924, to the late George Phillips and Lillian Stallings Phillips. She was a member of Reform First United Methodist Church and retired as Circuit Clerk of Pickens County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Wheat; and sisters. Survivors include her daughters, Sara Nell Wheat Williamson of Gardendale, Ala., and Norma Faye Wheat Strong of Vestavia Hills, Ala.; four grandchildren; and six grandchildren.
