A nephew of Mary Polly recalled her taking him on fishing trips in Elnora. he said she would pack hard boiled eggs for lunch and a blanket. They would stay all day eating, fishing, and napping. He also recollects her being a medium sized woman, not too big or too tall. She was not very outgoing, but rather quiet. This seems to be a common trait among this branch of McCain men...quiet, not outgoing nor easy to get to know. There has always been a rumor that there was Indian blood in the McCain line and a museum curator confirmed that there indeed is Indian ancestry in the Phillips lineage.
