NOTES From information sent to Gertrude Fox Weston from her cousin Charline Hull who had in her possession several ancestor wills.... Zachariah Phillips was a very wealthy man who owned much land in Amherst and Nelson Counties in Virginia. Each of his children had in their possession property and slaves, given to them by their father. Altogether he had 20 slaves. Charline quotes the will as stating, "I lend to my beloved wife during her natural life one third of my lands to be laid off agreeable to quantity and quality, and she to have choice of lots. Also, three slaves, and as much of my household and kitchen furniture as she may choose to take, also one third of all my stock."
