Biography

My cousin, the daughter of my mother's sister from the Jeffrey clan. Written from memory and help with dates from NB Govt Archives for birth, marriage and death by Peter McLeod, during April and May, 2014.

Anne Matilda Phillips was born in 1928. She was the daughter of Ira Cornwall Phillips [Phillips-8749] and Euphemia Phillips nee Jeffrey [Jeffrey-508]. She grew up in Coldbrook, an area by the "Three Mile House" on Rothesay Avenue, Saint John County, NB. She attended school in Glen Falls and went to High School in the city of Saint John.

She had an older sister Helen who married Herman Mercer of Torryburn, and an older brother James Ira Phillips, who married Alice L. (Madill) Phillips on October 1, 1941, in Upper Golden Grove United Church . They were divorced before November 1955 because then he married Anna B. (Blackwell) Phillips on November 24, 1955 in Waterloo St. Baptist Church,Saint John, NB.

Anne married William Jesse Cooke, who lived about 2 or 3 houses east of her house on July 9, 1949, in Coldbrook at a Church of England Church called St Bartholomew's Church by Rev, H.H. Hoyt, the same place I, Peter E McLeod married my wife Florence only I was a year later, plus one day.

They had two children, both males, Jeffrey and Michael. NAME went to NAME college and became an engineer and began his career with COMPANY. NAME entered the business world and became an owner of a restaurant and a gasoline station in Youngs Cove Road in Queens County, NB. Michael married Name and they have children Jeffrey married NAME and they have children

Peter McLeod's wife Florence (Bonnie) used to stable her horse at the Phillips residence in a small barn at the rear of their building. Their building which included rooms for a family of two adults and three children also had a store and three gasoline dispensing pumps by the street. They sold White Rose Gasoline. Anne's father, Ira. was a salesman for that company.

Her husband Bill died before Anne did, on DATE

She passed away in 2010.
