According to Wikipedia, "John George Phillips (1888–1964) was an American businessman who served as President of IBM. When Phillips became vice chairman of the board and head of the executive committee, he was succeeded by Tom Watson Jr. Phillips retired in 1952."
According to the New York Times, "Mr. Phillips began his business career as a timekeeper with the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railroad. He joined I.B.M. in 1918 at the invitation of the late Thomas J. Watson, then the president, who had met him on a Susquehanna train."

After Helen died, John married Susan A (nee Arnot)(age 40 in 1930 and married within that year).[1]
