Biography
William John son of William Frederick Philpotts [sic] & Elizabeth Ann Philpotts [sic] formerly Munday. Born 27th November 1891 at 12 Ashley Terrace, Winchester[1], Hampshire, England. Father's occupation: Private Rifle Brigade. Informant: E. A. Philpotts (mother) of 12 Ashley Terrace.[2]
On the 17th September 1910, he married Mabel Elizabeth Mitchell at The Register Office, Woolwich, London, England. William John Phillpott, 22 years [sic] (he was only 18 years), Bachelor, Clerk in Gun Factory of 12 Garibaldi Street, Plumstead, Kent, England, son of William Frederick Phillpott (Labourer at Woolwich Arsenal) & Mabel Elizabeth Mitchell, 21 years [sic] (she was only 20 years old), spinster of 12 Garibaldi Street, Plumstead, Kent, daughter of Henry James Mitchell (Carpenter, Journeyman). Witnessed by Mr R & Edith Orr[3].
On the 19th June 1921, William John (b. 1891 Winchester, Hampshire) was living at Crayford, Kent, England with his wife Mabel Elizabeth and children William Henry John (b. 1911) and Greta Jean (b. 1913)[4]
William John, a time clerk at gun works, died aged 35 years, on the 28th February 1927 at 3 Lessness Road, Erith, Kent, England. He died of 1) Pulmonary Tuburculosis and 2) cystitis Heart failure. Informant: Walter Mitchell (brother-in-law) [5]

Research Notes
Although William John's birth was registered with the surname Philpotts - this was clearly an error as all other children to the couple were registered as Phillpott, and the surname Phillpott was consistently used. Elizabeth Ann was likely mis-heard when she gave her surname at the registration.
