Born on 7 May 1857 at Padstow, Cornwall, England to parents William Henry Philp (seaman) & Eliza Young [1]

On 7 April 1861, aged 4, he lived at 31 The Strand, Padstow, Cornwall, England with mother Eliza Philp (31) and siblings: Richard Thomas Philp (8), William Thomas Philp (6) & Stephen Philp (2) [2]

On 2 April 1871, aged 13, he lived in Portreath, Cornwall, England with parents William H Philp (41) & Eliza Philp (40) and siblings: Richard J Philp (18), William H Philp (16), Stephen Philp (11), Thomas A Philp (9), Mary A Philp (5), Eliza E Philp (3) & Emily Philp (1) [3]

He emigrated to Australia sometime in the 1870s to early 1880s. He is the only one in his family that emigrated at that time. His married eldest brother Richard Thomas Philp moved to Cumberland, England in the mid 1870s then to Australia in 1887.

In 1884 they lived in Tibooburra, New South Wales, Australia then moved to Broken Hill, Darling, New South Wales [5] In the early 1890s they moved to Coolgardie, Western Australia, Australia. Coolgardie is one of the major towns in the goldfields of Western Australia, and is located 510 kilometres east of Perth. Gold was discovered here by Bailey and Ford in 1892, and the townsite of Coolgardie was gazetted in 1893.

On 17 July 1895 the Presbyterian Church at Coolgardie, Western Australia opened, built by builders Philp & Royle.

On 13 January 1898 he committed suicide in Sylvester St, Coolgardie, Western Australia [6][7]

He was buried at the Coolgardie Cemetery. [8]
