Biography

The Birth Date is a rough estimate. See the text for details.

Her date of birth is estimated from her brother having been born by 1608, and the age of her children.

Aemillion Holbech and Ruth Fips were married on 28 August 1636 at Holy Trinity, Coventry, Warwickshire.[1] They had at least six children:

  1. Ruth, baptised 1 Jan 1637/8 at Holy Trinity, Coventry; buried on 13 June 1642 at Holy Trinity, Coventry
  2. Thomas, baptised 5 June 1640 at Holy Trinity, Coventry; buried on 20 Nov 1643 at Holy Trinity, Coventry
  3. Ruth, baptised 28 Oct 1642 at Holy Trinity, Coventry
  4. Frances, baptised 26 May 1646 at Holy Trinity, Coventry
  5. John, baptised 20 Apr 1649 at Holy Trinity, Coventry; buried on 27 June 1649 at Holy Trinity, Coventry
  6. John, baptised 27 Sep 1650 in Coventry

A series of land transactions in Coventry link Ruth to her father and husband:

  • 13 April 1631: Margery Barrowes of Coventry, widow, sells to Francis Phipps (of Coventry, gentleman) two Little Park Street messuages occupied by Margery, John Tatam and Katherine Tresham (widow).[2]
  • 27 July 1633: Demise by Francis Phippes of Coventry, gentleman, to his daughter Ruth of the two Little Park Street messuages, lately occupied by Margery Barrowes et al, for one thousand years at a peppercorn rent.[3]
  • 22 Sep 1638: Sale by Amillyon Holbech of Coventry, yeoman, and his wife Ruth, daughter of Francis Phippes of Coventry, gentleman, deceased, of the two messuages on the western side of Little Park Street which Francis Phippes bought from Margery Barrowes, to Stephen Darker and his wife Joyce for £65.[4]
  • 23 Nov 1649: Grant for 12d. by Robert Phippes of Coventry, esq. to Stephen Darker and his wife Joyce of the messuages sold by Amillyon and Ruth Holbech in 1638.[5]
