Daniel Piatt was born in 1745. One of five Piatt brothers who served during the American Revolution. He was the son of John Piatt and Frances VanderVliet, was born at Sixmile Run, Somerset, New Jersey.
He was a Major in Continental Army - Revolution. Major Piatt successfully gathered 100 head of cattle along with 600 bushels of grain for the troops. During his duties he contracted pneumonia due to exposure to the elements. He died at Jockey Hollow, Morristown, NJ. on April 16, 1780. Masonic services were included in his funeral services. George Washington attended his burial. Jockey Hollow was twice the winter quarters for the Continental Army. It is now a part of Morristown National Military Park. It is most likely that he is buried in the Jockey Hollow Cemetery where more than one hundred Continental soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for American Liberty were buried during their encampment there.
