Biography

David Pickard was born in Nigeria to parents of British citizenship.

1972 - David was born in Ibadan, Nigeria[1], while his parents were working as Methodist Missionaries, he was the first of their three children and moved with them to London where his father was a methodist minister his mother a teacher, poet and preacher. They had moved with one sister to be joined by a second.

David was interested in genealogy as a youngster and gathered a lot of the notes, and first hand sourcing from his older relatives whilst they were still alive. Most of this was only recorded on paper but more recently he tried to combine this with online sources and gradually add the layers of relatives to WT.

David gained his PhD in the Physics of Diamonds and Related Materials and has since worked in academia, industry and the public sector.

David married in 2003 and together with his wife had a son and a daughter.

Thanks Amelia - happy to continue helping, although most of my activity will likely be adding my existing family research to WT, happy to be part of other project activity but plenty to keep me busy

Hi David,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Thanks for having a Big Heart and taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. You will want to read this After Adopting Orphans as it explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. You may also want to go through the new member help on How to manage your Watchlist.

Hi David

Thank you for adding a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM does not automatically populate your tree it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches, once that has been done, you add any remaining names manually.

The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let us know by using the "reply" link under our comments, or by clicking our names to visit our profiles. From there, you can leave a comment, or send a private message.
