Biography

Flag of Northumberland (adopted 1951)
John Pickard was born in Gosforth, Northumberland, England.

John Pickard was the thirteenth of fifteen children of John Pickard, a miner originally from Derbyshire and Eleanor Boustead from Cumbria. He was born in 1873 in Gosforth and lived in or around Newcastle Upon Tyne his entire life. When he was 14 his father died in a Mining Disaster and he was brought up by his mother and unmarried older brother. He did his training as a Carpenter and worked in the collieries and shipyards for his whole career. In 1899 he married Mary Teague and together they had two children. He was a Freemason and in addition to regalia kept in the family his death notice confirmed he was a Worshipful Brother and Companion.

Timeline:

He was baptised on 13 Oct 1873 in the Primitive Methodist Chapel at Nelson Street in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland[3]. He was the thirteenth of fifteen children of John Pickard, a miner originally from Nottinghamshire and Eleanor Boustead from Cumbria.
