Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1863 in Harlem, Winnebago, Illinois, the daughter of James Picken and Jane Montgomery. [1]

She married John Colville in 1890 in Winnebago, Illinois. [2]

The Rockford Daily Gazette wrote about the wedding:

The marriage of John Colville and Miss Lizzie Picken took place yesterday afternoon at the home of Mr. James Picken, at the Scotch Settlement near Argyle. The house was beautifully decorated. The guests were received the father and sister of the bride and the ceremony was performed at five o'clock by Rev. J. M Fulton, of the Presbyterian church. An elegant wedding supper was served.

The bride is a charming Scotch lassie, well known in the settlement, and in her wedding costume of silver gray silk cut entrain steel trimmings, puff sleeves and bridal roses, looked most beautiful. The groom is employed by the Rockford Publishing company as a collector and bears a good reputation for honesty, industry, and energy. The guests from Rockford were Miss Lizzie Black, Hugh Brown, Mrs. D. C. Ralston, Mr. Will Giffen and James Colville. [3]
