Joseph Barwise and Eliza A. PICKETTS, had two children, Joseph Peter and his sister Jessie Maud. When Eliza died, leaving Joseph with a 12 year old daughter, he remarried, which was a well-accepted practice at the time. However, much to the chagrin of his oldest son Joseph Peter, he married a woman two or three years younger than he (Joseph Peter). This caused a huge rift in the family. Joseph Peter refused to even speak of the half-brothers William and Frederick Joseph, let alone speak to them. (ref. Jason Barwise)
