Biography

Asa Pierce was born in Jaffrey, New Hampshire in 1812, the son of Jonas Pierce and Lucinda Bailey.

He married Lodica Bessey Dyke, daughter of Fuller Dyke (1778-1863) and Jerusha Harlow (1786-1858) on 5 Dec 1839 in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. They were the parents of nine known children.

The 1850 census shows Asa and Lodica living in East Livermore, Maine with their children Albion (age 10), Jerusha (age 8), George (age 4) and Charles (age 1), living next door to Lodica's mother and father, Jerusha Dyke and Fuller Dyke (Dike in the record). The value of Asa's real estate is listed as $600.00.

In 1860, the census of East Livermore, Maine showed Asa, a farmer, age 47 and Lodica, age 37, with their five youngest children, Almeda (17), George (14), Charles (11), Eliza (8) and Franklin (5) living there as of 11 Jun 1860. His personal property is valued at $200.00 and his real estate is valued as $1200.00.

The 1870 census shows that the family has moved to Chesterville, Maine where Asa, age 57, is still a famer. Living with him and Lodica (47) is Almeda (24), Charles (21), Eliza (18), Frank (11), Annie (6) and Walter (5). His real estate is valued at $1200.00 and his personal property valued at $4000.00. Son Charles works in a grocery store and daughters Almeda and Eliza are shown as "house keepers".

He passed away in Maine in 1874 at age 62 years, 3 months and is buried at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Livermore, Maine .
