Biography

1787: "James Dillon and Kezia his wife and Samuel Spruill & Martha his wife" sell land for 250 pounds to Josiah Collins, Nathaniel Allen, and Samuel Dickerson on July 5, 1787; The land joins the lands of Nehemiah Spruill and Joseph Spruill. It begins "at a bay tree on the river pocosin runing(?) thence south 30 W one hundred and sixty pole to an oak thence north 45 W one hundred and ninety four and one quarter pole to a gum [tree] then north 30 E one hundred and sixty pole to the river thence south 45 E one hundred and ninety four and one quarter of a pole to the first station containing one hundred ninety four & one quarter acres" and also "land known as the Bear Grass Island lying on each side of the canal of the said Collins, Allen, & Dickerson and containing thirty seven acres -Registered Feb. 28, 1788; ; Original Index and Deeds on LDS Microfilms #0260481-0260486; #0019984-0019991)

As Evan Dillon notes in his book, "[t]his listing provides the only evidence that James' wife was named Kezia. James and Kezia also had a daughter named Kezia. This listing also proves that James and Kezia were married by 1787" (p. 157).[1] All other information in this profile should be treated as speculative.

Research Notes

Many unsourced trees suggest that this Kezia was "Kezia Pierce" or Keziah (Spruill) Chesson (1731-1764), but no evidence has been identified to support these claims.
