1941 Apr 27, Sunday Detroit Free Press Page 47 Bride-elect Sets Date for Rites. Alys Jane Pierce to Be Married in June. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Merrill Pierce, of Royal Oak, announced the engagement of their daughter Alys Jane to Lieut. Cortland Cromwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cromwell, at an informal tea and open house last Sunday. Bulletins in the form of telegrams were handed to the guests by Jean Cromwell. The messages also stated that the wedding will take place next June 28. Miss Pierce is a graduate of the University of Michigan and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of Michigan State college, where he was affiliated with Hesperian fraternity. Mrs. Charles Cromwell and Mrs. Herbert Gibbs, Jr., of Detroit, presided at the tea table, which was centered with an all-white bouquet of snapdragons, stock and sweet peas.
