Biography

Obituary: Gerald E. age 88, of Monroe, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014 at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties where he had been a patient for eight days. He was born August 23, 1925 in Middletown and lived in this area all his life. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II for 2 ½ years. He was on the U.S.S. Oxford, an Attack Transport, during the invasion of the Philippines and Okinawa. He was employed as a crane operator in the Soaking Pits at Armco Steel, where he served for 37 years retiring in 1983. He then worked as a wall paper hanger for Gilmore Painting and Wall Papering. Gerald was a 70 year member of Breiel Boulevard First Church of God. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed camping. After retiring, he spent his winters in Sebring, Florida. Preceding him in death were his first wife, Freda M. Pierett in 1999; three brothers, Harold, Charles and John; and two sisters, Sylvia and Barbara. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Lois Pierett; four sons, Thomas (Judy) Pierett, Stephen (Connie) Pierett, Paul Pierett, and Mark (Christina) Pierett; three step children, Becky (Bryan) Garde, Jacob (Denise) Yaeger and Phillip (Michelle) Yaeger; fourteen grandchildren, Steve, Donna, Aaron, Mindy, Alex, Nick, Catherine, Rachel, Jacob, Bethany, William, Derek, Calvin and Brandon; two great grandchildren, Lexie and Nathan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, July 5, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, followed by services at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Wes Duff officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery, with military services by Middletown Combined Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties, 5940 Long Meadow Dr., Franklin, Ohio 45005. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown.
