Biography

Catherine Louise Pierson was born in 1904, in Sioux City, Iowa, the town where her parents were married. She was first-born daughter of Robert Pierson and Kate Coleman. ^{[1] [2]} She was always called by her middle name, "Louise", and she spelled her first name with a 'C'. ^[3]

Louise had seven brothers and sisters:

Charles Robert Pierson (1907-1923);

Frances Eileen Pierson (1909-1994);

Leland C Pierson(1911-1971);

Anastasia Pierson (1913-1991);

TJ Chester Pierson (1916-2001);

Mary Dorothy Pierson (1919-1975);

Stephen James Pierson (1923-1965).

Louise's family left Sioux City when she was a child, to make their home in Des Moines (Polk) Iowa. A few years later they moved to Panora (Guthrie) Iowa. ^[4] By 1918 the family was back in Sioux City.

In 1924 Louise and Shelby Johnstone were married. They lived for a time with her family in Sioux City before moving to Chicago. ^{[5] [6] [7]}

According to family lore, Louise sang live on WLS radio in Chicago. ^[3]

Three children were born:

• Dolores Eba Johnstone, born in Sioux City in 1925, ^[8]
• Catherine Louise Johnstone, born in Chicago in 1927, ^[9]
• Shelby Corzine Johnstone, Jr., born in Chicago in 1933. ^[10]

In 1932 Louise and Shelby took into their home and cared for Louise's newborn niece, Alanna Clements, daughter of Eileen Pierson. Alanna was brought up as one of the family and was unofficially given the name Johnstone. ^[3]

After a divorce in the late 1930's, Louise married second John H Milton, in Montana. ^[11] They resided for a time in Seattle at the home of John Milton's father. The household included in 1940 Louise's children, Dolores and Catherine, and John's son, John Frederick. ^[12]

Louise and John Milton returned to Sioux City, Iowa, after a time. ^[13] Louise was widowed in 1975. ^[14]

Louise passed away in Riverside, California in 1988. Her daughters had settled in Riverside and were able to take care of her. ^[15] She was laid to rest at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. ^[16]
