Biography

  • Wijnand was born before 7 Nov 1706
  • He was baptised 7 Nov 1706 in Stellenbosch
  • In the baptise record, the name of the father is left empty, so any patronimic given is incorrect! (so NOT Pietersz)
  • His mother is Gerbrechtje Pieterse (no surname given, but she is known to a daughter of Pieter Gerritsz Boshouwer, so NOT Loggerenberg)
  • Because of his name, it was assumed that his father was Wijnand Wijnandsz the only Wijnand known at Cape of Good Hope at that time, whose father was Wijnand Leendertsz Halverhout/Besuijer-hout who died 1674. Wijnand Wijnandsz married his mother on 19 Dec 1717; it may be assumed there was a relationship before that date.
  • Wijnand married Maria Catrina Botha on 10 Oct 1725 in Paarl. His name is then written as Winant Bezuijdenhout.
  • They had at least 8 children
  • Wijnand died 18 Oct 1784 in Tulbagh.

Wynand Pietersz [1] / Wynand Bezuidenhout [2][3][4]

Father putative

Father-Putative: Wynand Wynandsz Bezuidenhout b. 1 Jul 1674, d. b 26 Oct 1723; Four of the children (Wynand, Pieter, Cornelis and Aletta) born to Gerbrecht Boshouwer prior to her marriage in December 1717 to Wynand Wynandsz Bezuijdenhout appeared not to have been formally acknowledged as his biological children during his lifetime. However, there was a longterm de facto relationship between the parents prior to their marriage; and the four children all apparently used the family name in marriages and baptisms; one child, Wynand, was evidently named for this father.
