Margaret Ann Pifer was born on the Pifer homestead about a mile northwest of Strasburg in Shenandoah County, daughter of Jacob Pifer and Catherine Snapp Pifer. She married Solomon Funkhouser and lived for about twenty years in the Capon Valley of Hampshire County before returning to Shenandoah County. They lived for a while at Stephens City but then settled in Strasburg by 1860. They are both buried at Saint Paul's Lutheran Churchyard, in Strasburg.
