In August 1745, Susannah Piggott and her family joined other Quaker families who left the Nottingham area of Cecil Co., Maryland & Chester Co., Pennsylvania, to settle northern Virginia, at the newly-formed Hopewell Monthly Meeting there. That is where she met Richard Kemp, b: around 1721 in Fairfax County, Virginia; he was from an Eastern-Shore Maryland Quaker family. The couple were married in northern Virginia at Goose Creek MM, in a part of Fairfax County that became Loudon County in 1757. [7]
Three years later, on August 26, 1749, they obtained permission from their Quaker meeting to join a new pioneer movement south to the Piedmont region in North Carolina, settling first in Bladen County. Their original meeting change was for Carver's Creek MM. Unfortunately, the books of Carver's Creek MM, Bladen Co., NC are lost. Their oldest son, Joseph, was born about 1751 in Bladen County, NC. Some family genealogists attribute 2 more early sons to this couple: Moses Kemp, b: 1749 and Charles-Henry Kemp, b: ca. 1743, both in North Carolina, but if their WikiTree birth data is accurate, this is a confusion with a different Richard Kemp as Richard & Susannah (Piggott) Kemp married in Virginia in January 1746 and did not move south to NC until August 1749. [8]
In September 1753 Richard & Susannah (Piggott) Kemp joined some 30 other Quaker families at Snow Camp, then in Orange County, joining the Cane Creek MM, widely considered the first formally-established Quaker meeting in the Piedmont region of central North Carolina. [9][10]
Susannah Piggott and Richard Kemp were members of the Society of Friends (Quakers), part of the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting (MM), Snow Creek, Orange / Chatham County, North Carolina in the 1770s when their 6th and last child, daughter Rachel Kemp, was born in January 1772. Susannah was nearly 48, considered quite mature to have a baby. She lived another 9 and a half years, dying in 1781 at 57 years old.[11]
Daughter, Rachel Kemp (Williams), died on 18 August 1851 in Wayne Co., Indiana - See her Wikitree profile Kemp-1812 for family references and sources. [12]
↑ Many genealogies say 13 Jan 1723 because they misread the old Quaker dating system used to 1753 (and sometimes later), where March was the 1st month. Susannah was born: 13 day, 1 month, 1723/24, which translates to March 13, 1724, by modern dating. Chet Snow, 15 April 2018. NOTE: Her Find A Grave Memorial says 1723 but that is NOT correct. Do NOT change the birth year based on that source, please.
↑ Sept 1, 1753: Orange County NC land records show Richard Kemp purchased 90 acres of land from Anthony and Sarah Chamnose. Richard and Susanna Kemp were not listed as part of the original [Cane Creek] Meeting that was founded in 1751. From: Galen Hinshaw file 1982.
Find A Grave: Memorial #42245322 retrieved 15 Apr 2018: Susanna Piggott Kemp. NOTE: This memorial states she was born 13 Mar 1723 but early records say 13 Mar 1723/24, which is 13 March 1724. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE HER BIRTH YEAR ON THIS PROFILE.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Susannah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Susannah:
Piggott-459 and Piggott-104 appear to represent the same person because: Hi, me again. I think it's worth taking a second look at merging these profiles. Both daughters of same couple, both named Susannah Piggott. Both evidently married men named Kemp, as Piggott-459 has Kemp children but no linked husband. The Kemp children attached to 459's profile match the names into the bio of Piggott-104.
Both Susannah Piggott Kemps die in the same location on the same date.
The only issue is deciding whether Susannah was born in Nottingham, Chester, PA or in N'ham, Cecil, MD. Probably MD like her siblings.
Piggott-104 does have a son attached, Charles Henry Kemp, not listed in the bio and born in North Carolina 3 years before the couple's marriage in Virginia. Husband Richard Kemp's child from a previous marriage?
