Francis Pike born in Chemung Co. NY Feb 18, 1819, was brought up on a farm and educated in common schools of that county. At an early age he learned the trade of a carpenter and joiner and also became the owner of a farm which he conducted in connection with his trade for many years. At the age of 20 years he removed to near Cleveland, Ohio where he bought a farm and followed his trade for 26 years. He came to Iowa in 1866 and settled on a farm 2 miles south of Ladora, (The Grant Atkinson Farm). In 1876 he moved to Ladora and was engaged in various kinds of work. He clerked for Mr. Starrett part time and also part time for Mr. Snavely. He married Orrilla Bennett of Cleveland, OH in 1838. (She was b. in Vt.) She d. Oct. 21, 1873 leaving 5 children. Olive, Mary A., Elizabeth, Samuel A. and Robert Burr.

Cuyahoga Co. marriage license application Sept. 17 1838 for Francis Pike and Orilla V. Bennett, includes declaration that Francis has the permission of his mother in Chemung Co. NY, his father being dead.

As Frances Pikey head of a household in Warrens Cuyahoga OH in 1840 consisting of 1 M 20-29, 1 F <5 and 1 F 20-29.

In 1850 head of a household in Orange [twp.], Cuyahoga, Ohio consisting of himself age 31 born in New York, wife Orilla age 31 born in Vermont, daughters Olive (10), Mary (7) and Elizabeth (5), all born in Ohio and son Samuel age 3 born in Ohio. Also present in the household are brother (?) Elias age 28 born in NY, (Elias' wife?) Elizabeth age 23 born in NY and (their son?) Andrew age 3 months.

In 1860, now as Pyke, head of a household in Orange Twp., Cuyahoga Ohio consisting of himself age 42 born in NY, wife Avarilla age 41 born in Vermont, daughter Olive age 20 born in Ohio, daughter E. M.(?) age 18 born in Ohio, daughter Elizabeth age 15 born in Ohio, son Samuel age 13 born in Ohio and son Burr age 7 born in Ohio.

In 1870 head of a household in [Sumner Twp, Iowa Co.?] Iowa consisting of himself age 50 born in NY, wife Orilla age 50 born in Vermont and son Robert B age 17 born in Ohio.

Francis Pike married 2nd Mrs. Maria A. Parrott.

In 1880 head of a household in Ladora, Iowa Co. Iowa consisting of himself age 61 born in NY and wife Mariah age 53 born in CT.

Pike-5264 and Pike-1773 appear to represent the same person because: Everything matches up, not sure why I wasn't prompted to a match when I created Francis Pike but I have the same parents listed with same dates of birth. I have a bit more information to add including Francis spouse is Orilla Bennett and of course his child which is a direct relative of mine.
