There is much speculation that Lewis Pike of Caswell County, North Carolina is the father of Joshua. Although it has not been proven who his father is, it is definitely not Lewis. Recent Y-DNA testing has confirmed he is not related to Lewis Pike. It is much more likely he is the son of Joseph Pike of Edgecombe County, North Carolina and grandson of William Pike.

From Montgomery County, Tenn. Wills and Administrations; Volume Two (1805-1814) by Laura Willis the following is mentioned in Will Book B, Page 45 Joshua Pike bought one cow for $6.56 and one fourth and from the same estate sale, Stephen Mallery bought 4 head of sheep for $10.00. In Volume Four (1814-1817) Joshua pike bought an item from the estate sale of James Jefferies. Also from the same book, a note of $10.00 on Thomas Jolly was shown in the inventory of the estate of James Creswell. In Volume Five (1817-1819), Thomas Jolly, possible relaitive of daughter-in-law Elizabeth Jolly, is listed among the names of those the estate of Solomon Kittress was holding notes. Joshua Pike purchased a "lot of irons" from the estate of Equiller Tubbs and both William W. Mallory and Joshua Pike were listed among the names with accounts due to Lockert and Smith. In Volume Six (1819-1820), along with Drewry Harrison and Elisha Willis, Joshua Pike signed a bond of $150 for the estate of Jane Allock, deceased, dated 16 Oct 1820. Joshua also bought a"cotton wheel and cards" and a "lot of corn" from the same estate.
In the summer of 1816 - "Hiram Cooper took charge of the road leading form Russelville to Palmyra between the little west fork of Red River and the road leading from Clarksville to Hopkinsville. The work hands were: Lemuel Peters, Drury Bonds, William Elliott, James McCarroll, Samuel McNichols, Edward Trice, Nace F. Trice, John Wilson, William Jordan, Henry Williams, Mr. Martin, John Starkey, Roland Peterson, Taylor Chism, Washington Lee, John Chism, Robert Trice, Shepherd Trice, Stephen Mallory, Joshua Pike, Exekiel Jones and William Lowther. Others list the father of this Joshua Pike as Lewis Pike of Caswell County, North Carolina. Pike Y-DNA evidence proves there is no genetic connection between Joshua Pike and Lewis Pike.
