Biography

Sarah Pike, born 15 January 1718, was the daughter of Hugh Pike and Hannah (Emerson) Pike. [1]

Sarah Pike of Newbury, Mass. married Francis Chase on 29 Sep 1737 at Amesbury, Essex, Massachusetts. [2] [3] Children:

  1. Hannah, born Sep. 26, 1738[4]
  2. Samuel, born Oct. 23, 1739[5]; married Mary Steward about 1760.
  3. Amos, born July 6, 1741[6]
  4. Francis, born July 4, 1743 [7]
  5. Joseph, born Feb. 25, 1745 [8]
  6. Abner, born Nov. 19, 1746 [9]
  7. Simeon, born Aug. 26, 1748 [10]
  8. Sarah, born July 24, 1750[11]
  9. Betty, born Sept. 18, 1752, died 28 Nov 1757 [12]
  10. Daniel, born May 21, 1755 ?
  11. Betsey, born Oct. 27, 1758
  12. Molly, born Feb. 12, 1760

Sarah is specifically mentioned in the will of her husband, Francis Chase, as well as their 8 sons; Francis, Samuel, Amos, Joseph, Abner, Simeon, Daniel and Moses, and 4 daughters; Hannah, Sarah, Betsey and Molly [14]

Sarah died in 1794, in the 77th year of her life, apparently killed by falling from a horse. She was buried at Francis Chase Cemetery, Newton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. [15]

Research Notes

According to the notes on the birth records of each child, Sarah Pike was born only 7 months and 16 days after the birth of her brother, Solomon Pike. Perhaps Sarah was born prematurely; no records have been found to refute the childrens' respective birth dates.
