MR. FREDERICK THOMAS PIKE, EASTERN CREEK.
At Lewisham Hospital on Monday, 17th ult., there passed away Mr. Frederick James Pike, J.P., son of the late Thomas and Ann Pike. Born at Eastern Creek in 1856, and after apprenticeship at Penrith he joined the railway staff at Eveleigh, retiring as chief boiler-maker in 1916, after forty two years of service. At one time alderman of the Mascot (then North Botany) Council, he was secretary of the Retired Railway and Tram Men's Association and was well known in politics and in the Trade Union movement. For many years a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Waterloo, he was a member of the Presbytery Committee in the days of Father (later Monsignor) Collins, and secretary of the branch of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. At St. Bernard's, Mascot, he organised a Conference also. He was one of the oldest members of the M.U.I.O.O.F. in the State. Mr. Pike was the last surviving member of a family remembered for four generations, and thus his death breaks a link with the past. Rev. Fathers Hollands and Gallagher, as well as the clergy from Lewisham, attended the deceased during his illness, which had been continuous for three months. Members of the Holy Name Society, of which Mr. Pike had been a foundation member at St. Aldan's, Rooty Hill, attended, when the cortege left Parramatta for St. Mary's Cemetery, where the Rev. Father Gallagher officiated. Mr. Pike is survived by his wife and an adult family.

He was buried at St Marys General Cemetery (CATHOLIC SECTION-ROW S-32), St Marys, Penrith City, New South Wales. [7]
