Biography

Charles Pilcher was born August 22, 1908, on the old homestead, six miles north of Glasco and died at Eskridge, Kansas, August 20, 1939, at the age of 30 years, 11 months and 29 days.

His sudden death by drowning came as a shock to his relatives and friends. He attended grade and high school at Glasco, Kansas, graduating in 1927. He attended Kansas State College at Manhattan, majoring in physical education. He received his degree from there in 1933.

He was principal of the Glasco Grade School in 1934 and 1935. The next four years he taught and coached in the high schools of Cunningham, Asherville, and Randall. He had accepted a position as coach at Eskridge for the coming year and for the past two months had sponsored the Boy Scouts and summer recreational activities there.

Lawrence joined the Glasco Methodist church November 23, 1919. He was united in marriage to Awayn Taylor, of Luray, Kansas on May 31, 1937, at Salina, Kansas.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, his mother, Mrs. Adah Pilcher, two sisters, Mrs. Ed McClellan, and Mrs. Guy Hillan, and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, July 11, 1914, and brother, Clifford, January, 4, 1928.
