Biography

Stephen Pilcher was born in about 1790 in Guston, Kent and baptised at St Martin of Tours, Guston, Kent on 9 May 1790. He was the son of Thomas and Hannah. ^[1][2]

Stephen Pilcher (bachelor) was married to Betsey Burville George (spinster) on 4th October 1814 in St Margaret-at-Cliffe, Kent, England. Thomas George was a witness. ^[3][4]

In 1841, Stephen Pilcher (50, a mariner) was living in Ladywell Place, Charlton, Dover. His wife, Betsy (45), daughter, Mercy (16), son, Henry (14) and daughter, Sarah (11) were also living with them. ^[5]

Research

His wife died after 1841 but probably before 1851, as I cannot find her on any more censuses.

A Stephen Pilcher was married to Elizabeth Royce at St Martin of Tours, Guston, Kent on 23 Aug 1852. This may be his son. ^[6]

A Stephen Pilcher (87) died in 1885 in Dover, Kent. It may not be the right one. ^[7]
