Marie Agnes Pilon was born in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada on Aug. 15, 1904. She was the first child of Arthur Pilon, a telegraph lineman with the Grand Trunk Railway, and his wife Loretta Agnes Henderson, who were residents of Wingham, Ontario at the time of Marie's birth.[1] By 1931, Marie, her parents and her younger sisters were living in Toronto, where she was working on her own account as a private nurse.[2] She had graduated as a nurse from St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto.

During World War Two, she was a nursing sister with the rank of Lieutenant in the RCAMC (Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps) posted to a neurological plastic surgery hospital in Basingstoke, England. Post-war, she was in charge of Lyndhurst Lodge, a Toronto rehabilitation hospital for paraplegics. Prior to her July 26, 1951 marriage to Dr. Lawrence R. Hill (1895-1959),[3] she was assistant matron at Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital, in charge of neuro-psychiatry. Following their marriage, Dr. & Mrs. Hill moved to Bruce Mines, Ontario, where she assisted him at the small hospital they established there.
The year after her husband's death, Marie moved to the United States, obtaining admission for permanent residency in 1960 and naturalization in 1962, at which time she was living in Phoenix, Arizona.[4] By the Seventies, however, she had moved to San Jose, California, where she worked as a nurse[5][6][7][8][9] until her death there on Nov. 2, 1981.[10][11]
