His wife Marguerite McKenzie was born to Reuben and Viola Duncombe McKenzie in South Andros on 26 June 1932.[1] She moved to Nassau in 1946 to live with her sister and attended the Western Senior School.[2] She later became an assistant to photographer Stanley Toogood. Soon after, she met Lynden Pindling, who would go on to be Prime Minister of the Bahamas from 1969 to 1992. The couple married on 5 May 1956 and remained married until his death on 26 August 2000.[3] The couple had four children.
