Biography

My great grandfather had stated to my aunt Jane Fyvie (Watson) during a 1970s interview of his Scottish heritage that he came to Canada in approximately 1918/1919. The mystery which came to light was that John Fyvie stated that his paternal grandfather was Peter Fyvie and his maternal grandfather was a W.S Maitland and his mother he referred to as Mary Ann Maitland and believed this to be fact as he declared so in 1923 on his marriage license in Toronto Ontario. However records in Scotland (birth, marriage and gravestone of Mary Ann and Peter) list her as Mary Ann Pirie or Adams and not Maitland. John states also that his mother died of breast cancer in 1921 after he had already immigrated to Canada.
