Boek oor voormalige viserektor bekendgestel

‘’The place where I worship is the wide open spaces.’’ Dié woorde is dikwels deur prof Calie Pistorius, wyle viserektor van die Universiteit van Pretoria, uitgespreek wanneer hy op oop waters gevaar het of in ’n afgeleë gebied op reis was.

As seun van ’n NG-predikant, het Calie sy kinderjare in Reivilo, Wolmaransstad, Pietermaritzburg en George deurgebring, waarna hy teruggekeer het na sy geboortestad, Pretoria, om sy naskoolse studies aan die Universiteit van Pretoria te begin. Op die jeugdige ouderdom van 29 word hy professor en hoof van die Departement Rekeningkunde aan UP, en in 1984 word hy as Viserektor aan dié Universiteit aangestel. Dis egter die veelkantige persoon van dié geliefde dosent, kollega en familieman wat die verbeelding aangryp: Calie Pistorius was méér as ’n bekwame finansiële bestuurder, strategiese denker, natuurliefhebber en filosoof. Hy was ook ’n beskeie, deernisvolle gesinsman en raadgewer met ’n groot hart vir sy studente. Daarvan getuig die talle kostelike staaltjies in dié boek, asook die binnegrappie onder diegene wat hom goed geken het.

In 'Naand, Prof!' gee sy vrou, Hannie, ’n dieper kykie in die lewe van dié geliefde, veelsydige ‘’karakter’’. Naand Prof! is Hannie Pistorius se eerste pennevrug met die insette van familie, vriende en kollegas.[1]
