Elizabeth was the daughter of Theophilus Pitcher and Sarah Foster.
Known as "Marion's Fairy Godmother", Elizabeth Sprague Pitcher Taber became the town's most significant benefactress. The Widow Taber used her wealth to put some "snap" back into her hometown. Elizabeth funded the town's library, the First Congregational Church Chapel and Marion Music Hall. In 1876, at the age of 85, she founded Tabor Academy.
