Biography

Amanda was born in 1818. She was the daughter of Reuben Pitcher and Lydia Herrick. She passed away in 1891.

Amanda M. Pitcher was born 8 Apr 1818 in Martinsburg, NY to Reuben E. Pitcher and Lydia A. Herrick. She married Diodate B. Pease, son of Jabez Pease and Fanny Dewey, on 15 Nov 1837 in Martinsburg. She married second Edwin S. Caldwell in Sep 1874. She died on 7 Jan 1891 in Lowville, Ny at age 72.

Obituary: "She was twice married: first to Hon. Diodate Pease, a prominent politician of his day. Two children were the fruit of this marriage, Mary Helen, wife of Dr. A.B. Stevens, of Watertown and Fannie Isabel, wife of Dr. J. H. Tamlbin of this place. In September 1874 she was again married with Edwin S. Cadwell of Martinsburg.

Mrs. Cadwell united with the Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg at an early age and remained with that people until December 1886, when she removed her membership to the Congregational Church of Copenhagen. Mrs. Cadwell was an earnest, consistent, Christian woman, always looking on the most hopeful side of life. She identified herself with the working element of her church. She was member of the Gleaners, a society of her church and was personally interested in the prosperity of the society. She was broad and Catholic in spirit, rejoicing in the prosperity of others as well as her own church. To pronounce her perfect would be to deny that she was human, but to say that she was a devoted Christian is only to give her life the tribute which it merits. Indeed there is no higher eulogy that we can give at such a time as this than to say: she was a king, devoted and loving mother; an obliging and thoughtful neighbor, a good woman and a Christian. Intellectual greatness, social distinction and worldly success, will elicit praise and admiration, but it is goodness, which compels the heart to render the homage of its affection and perpetuates itself in loving memories of the living...."
