Mimie won a scholarship to school but her mother would not let her go unless her brother had one too. And he didn't have one. Mimie may have come to Perth, Australia after a broken engagement, perhaps with her employer. Albert and Mimie moved a lot. They bought a house in Gladesville, Sydney but Albert didn't like it. He moved them to Lane Cove which was a higher class suburb and they were evicted because they couldn't keep up the payments. They rented at Dorothy Mount where Mimie saved her money from her eggs, cream and milk she sold and eventually bought a house in Parramatta at age 50 (Joy Lillian Sydenham). Joy refused Mimie's offer of taking up cleaning jobs so that she could go to University.
Mimie wrote an entry in her eldest daughter's (Thelma) autograph book:
If God had designed woman as man's master He would have taken her from his head; If as his slave, he would have taken her from his feet; But as he designed her for his companion and equal, He took her from his side. Mother
Mimmie was born in 1886. She passed away in 1974.
