Hersey was the son of Louis Desmar Pitre and Marie Vige. He was born about 1911 in Louisiana. The family was living in St Landry Parish, Louisiana[1] in 1920.
In 1930, he was still living with his parents and siblings in St Landry Parish, Louisiana.[2]
