Francoise PITRE dit Vincent is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinsville, Louisiana. She is listed as a niece with Claude Duon and his spouse Marie Josephe Vincent, her mother's sister. [1]

Biography

Francoise was born about 1763 in Halifax, Acadia. She died in Lafayette, Louisiana, USA in 1840. [2] Her parents were Modest Francois Charles PITRE b: 1740 in Acadia and Madeleine VINCENT b: in Acadia. By the census of 9 April 1766 of Cabahonnocer, St. James, both her parents had died and she was living with her mother's sister Anne Vincent.

From Acadians in Gray Francoise Pitre

A young orphan came to the colony in 1765 and was taken not to Opelousas but to Cabanocé/St.-Jacques on the river above New Orleans where 20 Acadians from Georgia had settled the year before and where the majority of the Halifax refugees settled. Françoise, daughter of Modest Pitre and Madeleine Vincent, born probably in the prison compound at Halifax, was only a year old when she came to Louisiana with Claude-Amable Duhon of Port-Royal, age 27, and his wife Marie-Josèphe dite Josette Vincent of Pigiguit, age 26. Françoise was their niece. [Note: this may be the wrong family]
In 1766, she was living at Cabanocé with the family of Antoine Labauve. She was back with uncle Claude Duhon and his family in 1770, when Spanish officials counted them on the right, or west, bank of the river at nearby Ascension. Later in the decade, when she was still a child, Françoise followed the Duhons to the Attakapas District. In 1777, the census taker at Attakapas called her Françoise Norde-Este, which gives a clue as to which line of the Pitre family she belonged.
Françoise married Joseph, fils, son of fellow Acadian Joseph Trahan, at Attakapas in June 1783, and remarried to Jean, son of French Creole Pierre Desormeaux, at Attakapas in May 1793. They settled on the Vermilion. She remarried a second time--her third marriage--to Pierre, fils, son of Pierre Labombarde of Chambly, Canada, near Montréal, at the St. Martinville church, St. Martin Parish, in September 1816; she was 51 years old at the time of the wedding.
In November 1832, when she was 68 years old, she remarried a third time--her fourth marriage--to fellow Acadian Jean Baptiste Trahan, fils, widower of Marie Françoise Trahan, in a civil ceremony in Lafayette Parish.
Her succession record was filed at the Vermilionville courthouse, Lafayette Parish, in August 1840; she would have been 76 years old that year. No other Acadian immigrant married more often than this orphan girl from Halifax.
