Biography

Marie Josephe Pitre was born on 16 February 1772 in Poste-de-Pointe-Coupée, Louisiana, New Spain (now New Roads, Louisiana, USA), a daughter of François Pitre (c.1748 - 1819) and Marie Josephe Thibodeau (1754 - 1817).[1][2]

Her siblings were:

Marie Josephe was about sixteen years old when she married Michel Philippe Fontenot, about age forty, on 25 August 1788 in Opelousas Post, Louisiana.[3][4]

Their known children were:

  1. Marie Michel (Fontenot) Andrepont (c.1789 - 1847)
  2. Celestine Fontenot (<1792 - 1831)

About seven years later, after Michel's death, Marie Josephe married Pierre Laurent Dupre on 24 November 1795 in Opelousas, Louisiana.[5]

Their known children were:

  2. Francois Dupre (c.1798 - 1879)[6]
  3. Joseph Dupre (c.1800 - 1818)
  4. Celeste Dupre (c.1802)[7]
  5. Lise (Dupre) Daigle (1804 - 1841)

  7. Sidalise Dupre (c.1812)[9]

Marie Josephe died at the age of 77 on 29 January 1850 in Opelousas, St Landry Parish, Louisiana, USA. Cause of death was "old age."[10] She was buried in the St. Landry Church Cemetery in Opelousas, Louisiana.[11]
