Biography

Melasie was born in Louisiana in 1823 to Joseph Pierre Pitre and Marguerite Elise Vige.

Melasie married Joacin Pitre on 19 Jun 1838 in Louisiana.^[1]

Melasie was living with her husband and 7 children in 1850 in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.^[2] The children included Leonie, Auguste, Louis, Lesime, Villenense, and Lastie. There was also a 14 year old female, named Leocadie Pitre, living with the family, She was most likely a relative.

The family was still in St. Landry Parish in 1860.^[3] Children in the home were listed as Onezime, Leonie, Ema, Paulina, Lastenie, Vilneuve, and Octave. Also living in the household was Etienne and Melia Mataye. Jochim, Melasie's husband, was a farmer.
