Azelie died in her sleep, as noted by a notice in the Crowley Signal newspaper: "The mother of Edgar Pitre was found dead in her bed. Edgar keeps a store in this neighborhood (Crowley)". She is buried in the family crypt of her husband in the Pitre family cemetery in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.
