This profile carries the category of the Goodman Genealogy Fabrication because most of the bio and family connections that were used to create it are a result of the Goodman Fraud. While this profile is (likely) based on a real person, the details provided are false. Additionally, the parents, siblings, & children are fabricated and as such, they have all been disconnected (links to the disconnected family are below). This category placement does not mean that this profile is bogus but serves as a reference and as such it should not be removed.
This profile is conflated in that it is a mix of the birth record of a real person and the fraudulent record of a fabricated person tied to the baptismal record of the real person.
Records in existence
There are two records[1][2] that support the existence of James Pitt. Both records are supposedly transcribed from the original but as of this writing the original is not available for examination. The transcripts are identical with the exception of the name of the transcriber and both indicate (only) the following information:
Baptism record (transcript)
County Staffordshire
Place Bilston
Church name St Leonard
Register type Unspecified
Baptism date 11 Sep 1715
Person forename James
Person sex M
Father forename Richard
Father surname PITT
Mother forename Elizabeth
Detached family members
The family members who were previously linked to this profile have all been detached. Each is unsourced and is most likely part of the fraud. As such, each is being detached in order that this profile can be connected to its actual family members should they ever be discovered.
A search on Freereg found no matches with any of the children listed, nor were the marriages listed as taking place in Bilston. Son Thomas (who has descendants listed was also checked on Family search but was not found)
There is the burial of a Richard Pitt (possibly Jame's father ) on 5th April 1730, the transcription notes that he was a tow dresser, Someone who prepares hemp for spinning) a pauper; (not a sheep 'baron'.
Bilston Staffordshire is about as far as you can get from the sea in the UK. It is a long way from the Isle of Wight, house of Burgesses? Governors?
