EDIT: 1/21/2020. The 1870 Census listing J. George Pittman with wife Sarah seems a better fit as James is listed as born in Pennsylvania. this corresponds with the 1900 Census indicating that Margaret's father was born in Pennsylvania. This Census also places the family in the area of future census records. This is currently the Census attached.
The 1870 Census listing James Pittman with wife Rowena seems a less likely fit as James is listed as being born in Indiana.
I am not completely confident on the 1870 census. It is, however, the only one where a James Pittman is listed with a daughter Margaret the correct age for that census year. I will keep digging & will change it if necessary. R.G.
