Biography

Lucretia Mary Pitts was the daughter of Young Jefferson "Jeff" Pitts and his wife, Martha Cosby Meadors.

Lucretia Pitts was born 25 Jan 1870 at Pittsburgh, Missouri. She grew up in that community and was also married there to James Wesley Bowen on 27 Nov 1892, their vows were read by Judge Benjamin L. Mallonee.

They moved to Sedan, Kansas in 1897 and came to Park County, Montana in 1901, homesteading in the Flathead country west of the present Wilsall.

They operated a dairy in Livingston 1910-1913, and afterwards lived on various ranches in the Shields valley. Lucretia's home for her last 13 years was in Clyde Park.

Her husband Mr. Bowen died 8 Feb 1949.

Mrs. Bowen was a lifelong member of the christian church. She was a member of the Chadbourne Grandmother's club and of the Park County Pioneers society.

Mrs. Lucretia Pitts Bowen died late Tuesday afternoon at her home in Clyde Park after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Friday at Cloyd chapel at 2 pm, followed by burial in Mountain View cemetery.
