Mr. Plank was born in Adams County, Penn., August 23, 1832. His parents were John and Catharine Plank, natives of Pennsylvania, and of German descent. He was reared in his native State on a farm with his parents. At the age of nineteen he was apprenticed to learn the carpenter's trade, but did not adopt it as a life vocation. After his marriage he engaged in farming and followed this up to the time of his sudden and unexpected death, which occxirred June 17, 1885, caused by being thrown from his carriage by an unmanageable horse. He was an old, respected citizen. He died as he had lived, a believer in the Christian faith and a member of the Lutheran Church
