Biography

That King Edward II had an illegitimate son is known only from a few references in the Wardrobe accounts to an "Adam bastard son of the lord king". No other writer mentions the fact, and it remained unknown until more recent times.

This probably indicates that he was simply hidden in plain sight by being passed off as somebody else's son. Maybe Adam himself never knew who his real father was.

In particular, the monks at Tynemouth must have known which important personage they were burying, while remaining unaware that the king was his father.
