Birth and Parents
Joan of England, the seventh child of Henry Plantagenet and Aliénor (Aquitaine) of Aquitaine was born in October 1165 at Château d'Angers, France.[1]
Marriages and Children
Joan was married twice. She married 1) Guglielmo (William II "the Good") King of Sicily on 13 February 1177 and was crowned Queen of Sicily at Palermo Cathedral.[1]They had one child:
- Bohemond de Sicilia, duca d' Apulia (b. 1181; d. 1181)[2]
William II died in 1189 and Sicily was seized by his illegitimate cousin, Tancred.
Joan married 2) as his fourth wife, Raimond (Raymond VI) Count of Toulouse in October 1196 at Rouen with Quercy and the Agenais as her dowry.[1]They had three children:
- Raymond VII of Toulouse (b. Jul 1197; d. 1249) successor Raymond VI of Toulouse[3]
- Wilhelmina (alias Mary) of Toulouse (b. 1198; d. ) m. Berald od Elbine, Prince of Orange.[2]
- Richard of Toulouse (b. 1199; d. 1199)[2]
Death and Burial
Joan of England, Queen Consort of Sicily, Countess Consort of Toulouse died in childbirth on 4 September 1199 in her 34th year at Rouen and is buried at Fontevraud Abbey.[1][2][4]
