Biography

Samuel Platts was born in about 1789. He was the son of George Platts and Elizabeth Collet. ^[1][2]

Samuel married Jane Collins on 18th April 1813 at Tamworth, Staffordshire, England. ^[3] Jane Platts died in 1832 and was buried on 3rd February 1832 in Tamworth, Staffordshire, England. ^[4]

Samuel Platts married his second wife Elizabeth (nee Hamblett, aka Bird, a cotton winder, born 1787 in Fazeley, Staffordshire) on 3rd February 1833 in Tamworth, Stafford, England, the 1 year anniversary of his first wife's burial there. Witnesses to the marriage were Elizabeth Smith and John Rowe. Archibald Heighton, curate, officiated. ^{[5] [6]}

In 1841, Samuel (a gardner) and Elizabeth (both 50) were living in Gungate Street, Spinescoe Lane, Tamworth, Warwickshire, England with one of Samuel's children, Henry (21). William Platts (91) and John Platts (51) were living with them. I suspect that they were Samuel's uncle and brother or cousin. I need to do more sourcing to find out. Sarah Hamlet (or Hamblett, 13) and Elizabeth Bird (4), - Elizabeth's daughters from previous marriage(s) - complete the household.^[7]

In 1851, Samuel (62, a bricklayer's labourer) and Elizabeth (64) were living in Bolehall, Tamworth, Staffordshire with Elizabeth's daughter, Sarah (age 23, married name Lownds, b 1828 Fazeley, Staffordshire, England.), her husband, George Lownds (a 28 year old tape weaver born in Cheadle) and their 3 children, James (3), Amy (2) and George (8 months). ^[8]

In 1861, Samuel (70, a shoemaker) and Elizabeth (75) were living in Bolebridge Street, Tamworth. ^[9]

Samuel Platts (74) died in 1868 in Tamworth, Staffordshire. ^[10]
