Biography

Mary Esther Platts was born in 1864. She was the daughter of Joseph Platts and Catherine Johnson. ^[1][2]

In her father, Joseph's will, income from stocks, funds and securities were to go to Joseph's wife, Catherine (and after her death, to trustees) to be invested and accrued in trust for the benefit of their three children, Thomas Platts, Catherine Ann Platts and Mary Esther Platts in equal shares.

Up to half of the value each child's share was to be applied for their advancement in life and any share that would go to either of his daughters was to be hers to use as she pleased, free of marital constraint. ^[3]

In 1881, Mary E Platt (17, born in Osgathorpe, Leicestershire) was visiting Fanny Skermer (34, single, farmer of 120 acres emp. 1 man and 3 boys) in Grange Wood Road, Coton in the Elms, Derbyshire (Registration District: Burton Upon Trent, Staffordshire). ^[4]

Mary Esther Platts was married to John Griffin Bentley in 1898 but by the 1901 Census, he was a widower. ^[5]

Mary Esther Bentley died on 18th March 1901and her death was registered in Q1 of 1901 in Huddersfield. She was 37 years old. Mary was buried in Belton Chapel Burial Ground, Belton, Leicestershire. ^[6][7]
