According to the probate register, Joseph Platts, yeoman died on 4th June 1861 At Coleorton, with effects under £100. His son, Joseph, a shoemaker also of Coleorton was sole executor. The estate was divided between his wife, Mary and his four sons, John, Robert, Joseph and Jesse.
