William Platts enlisted in The Royal Leicestershire Regiment at Leicester. He served with 'A' Company, 6th Battalion during World War One and was awarded the Military Medal. He was killed in action during the France and Flanders campaign on 26.4.1918, aged 29 and is buried at Voormezeele Enclosures No.3, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
